It was in mid-December last year that the person was admitted to the orthopedics department at Södra Älvsborg Hospital in Borås for treatment. The person had tripped in the home and fractured his elbow.
During the fourth day in the hospital, the person had a fall accident. In connection with the fall, the person suffered a bleed under the skull bone and a bleed between the brain and the skull bone.
The person was seriously injured and later died as a result of his injuries.
The incident was reported to Ivo
The Lex Maria incident was reported as a serious health care injury to the Inspectorate for Care and Care, Ivo, at the beginning of September this year.
A healthcare injury is an injury that occurs in healthcare and that could have been avoided. A fall injury is therefore counted as a medical injury if the health care service could have prevented it by investigating the risk of it and taking preventive measures but has not done so.
