Women’s crowns’ former national team captain Christian Yngve is dead. “The little one” has passed away after a period of illness, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association announces.
– It’s a sadness, that’s for sure, says former star goalkeeper Kim Martin-Hasson.
Christian Yngve was involved from the start of Damkronorna’s history and a big reason for the success. He was with both assistant and national team captain between 1989 and 2002, the last year the Women’s Crowns took a surprising Olympic bronze in Salt Lake City.
One who played under Yngve during that time was goalkeeper icon Kim Martin-Hasson, 38.
– Of course very sad. I met him last season and found out he had cancer. At that time, it was not known how long he had left. I knew it was this serious. It’s a sadness, it absolutely is.
Christian Yngve was 61 years old.
