1,600 employees may leave Northvolt.
The company states this in a press release.
– The decisions we make today, no matter how tough they are, are required for Northvolt’s future, says CEO Peter Carlsson.
The financial situation for crisis-hit Northvolt is said to be urgent and a total stop to all expenses has already been introduced.
On Monday, the company’s CEO Peter Carlsson called the staff to a specially called meeting, where it was announced that a total of 1,600 employees will be forced to leave Northvolt.
– The decisions announced today are both challenging and painful. I and all my colleagues at Northvolt will do everything we can to support the colleagues who will eventually leave the company. However, the decisions are necessary to adapt to current reality and enable long-term success for Northvolt, says Carlsson in the press release.
In Skellefteå, the development of the Northvolt One project will be stopped. In Västerås, programs and expansion plans at Northvolt Labs will be slowed down and in Stockholm operations at the head office will be reduced.
“Tough times ahead”
1000 of the services relate to Skellefteå, 400 to Västerås and 200 to Stockholm. The academic association has roughly 600 members at the company.
– We in the Academic Association, together with the other concerned trade unions, have negotiated with the company in a difficult situation. It has been very difficult and challenging. Now we will spend all our time informing and taking care of the members, says Teodor Mellström, chairman of the Academic Association at Northvolt and member of Sweden’s Engineers, in a press release.
Support initiatives in the form of social security and income insurance are now waiting.
– Losing your job is hard and many members now have a tough time ahead of them. Our task now is to support our members and help them quickly find new jobs, says Camilla Frankelius, head of negotiations at Sweden’s Engineers.
