Two area men identified as biker gang members face robbery, assault charges

A Brantford man is among a group of motorcycle gang members arrested by the OPP’s Biker Enforcement Unit.

The 36-year-old man has been charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm after police raids at both the Hells Angels and Red Devils motorcycle clubhouses in Hamilton and several residences.

“Outlaw motorcycle gangs continue to be involved in violent occurrences throughout our communities,” said OPP Det. Insp. Scott Wade of the Biker Enforcement Unit in a news release.

“The items seized and charges laid in this investigation illustrate the importance of remaining diligent in our pursuit to disrupt and dismantle these criminal organizations.”

Hamilton Police have been investigating a July 2024 incident that took place in Hamilton where a person was assaulted and robbed on July 4.

On Aug. 21, the search warrants were executed at various locations and five people charged.

During the raids, police seized four shotguns, three rifles, a shotgun barrel, ammunition, body armor and a Possession and Acquisition License.

Along with the Brantford man, two others were also charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm: a 41-year-old Grimsby man and a 34-year-old Ancaster man.

From York, in Haldimand County, a 51-year-old man was charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm, as well as breaching firearm storage regulations.

A 36-year-old Hamilton man was charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm, as well as breach of a prohibition order and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device.

All five – charged with a total of 13 offenses – were released on an promise to appear at a court hearing, which is scheduled for Sept. 23 in Hamilton.

The Biker Enforcement Unit is a joint-forces group, led by the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and working with other police services to disrupt and dismantle organized crime groups.

Police recognize that, while the majority of motorcycle enthusiasts are law abiding, outlaw motorcycle gangs are criminal organizations whose activities cause harm and victimization across Ontario by participating in illegal, profit-driven activities like fraud, drug trafficking, extortion, intimidation and murder, said the release.
