The village has a surprising number of volunteers. In clubs such as Austerlitz Rides, Austerlitz Eat and Austerlitz DIY help dozens of volunteers from the village with rides to the hospital, having a nice meal together and hanging a lamp or fixing the computer. “Sometimes you hear that one half of the village takes care of the other”, jokes villager Geert. Geert himself is an enthusiastic volunteer at the café-restaurant and at the cemetery, because yes, the cemetery is also maintained by the villagers themselves.
