In the province of Tshopo, the central cash desk of the University of Kisangani was robbed. The events took place on the night of Thursday 19 to Friday 20 September in the administrative building, according to its rector, Jean-Faustin Bongilo. This theft occurs just four days after the closing ceremony of the 2023-2024 academic year, and a large sum of money is said to have been taken by the criminals.

The robbery was observed on the third level of the administrative building where the central cash desk of the University of Kisangani (UNIKIS) is located. Two trunks and a safe were reportedly taken by the thieves.
Nearly a million dollars were stolen, claims a source contacted by RFIApart from the registration fees paid to the bank, all other academic fees are kept in this central fund, assures another source.

The rector of UNIKIS, Jean-Faustin Bongilo, announced the news in a video on social networks before indicating the opening of an investigation: ” The police, they know very well how to do their investigations and I don’t want to interfere. But I make sure that no one touches anything there until we can find out how the thing happened. »
The exact contents of the flight are not known.
Regarding the contents of the central cash register at the time of the robbery, the university authorities have refused to comment. The teaching staff has not yet commented on the matter, considering that they have not been officially informed by the rector of this case of theft.
The rector, for his part, says he suspects an attempt to destabilize his institution, Jean-Faustin Bongilo: ” What we have deep in our hearts is this bitterness, that we are trying to disrupt the university at a time when we are trying to begin the deliberations of the other audiences that have remained. »
The administrative building of the University of Kisangani is guarded by a private security company. The university recorded cases of computer thefts during the same academic year.
