The new government was officially announced by the Elysée Palace shortly before 8pm this Saturday, September 21. The government will be composed of 39 members. Here is the list and the latest information.

20:11 – 20 women in government but only 8 in full office
Of the 39 positions announced, 20 are allocated to women in Michel Barnier’s government. On the other hand, in the full-time ministries alone, there are 8 women out of 19 ministers.
20:08 – Modem elected representative Geneviève Darrieussecq at the Health
Geneviève Darrieussecq, elected MoDem, inherits the Ministry of Health. She had already held ministerial functions in the past, under the governments of Jean Castex and then Elisabeth Borne, first at the Ministry of Remembrance and Veterans and then at the Ministry Delegate in charge of disabled people.

Tipped to be Minister of the Family, Laurence Garnier, criticized by Emmanuel Macron’s entourage for her positions on abortion and same-sex marriage, will indeed enter the government but ultimately inherits the post of Secretary of State for Consumer Affairs.

A former member of the Socialist group in the National Assembly, Didier Migaud is seen as a left-winger in this government. Until now president of the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life, he inherits the prestigious position of Keeper of the Seals at the Ministry of Justice, where he will succeed Eric Dupont-Moretti.

Rachida Dati would keep Culture, Sébastien Lecornu would be kept in the Armed Forces, Agnès Pannier-Runacher inherits Ecology, Jean-Noel Barreau goes to the Quai d’Orsay, Catherine Vautrin to social affairs, and Geneviève Darrieussecq to Health.

If Michel Barnier is considering splitting the very important post at Bercy with a Minister of the Economy on one side and a Minister of the Budget and Finance on the other, several names are already circulating. Antoine Armand, Macronist MP for Haute-Savoie and president of the Economic Affairs Committee in the National Assembly, is tipped for the Ministry of the Economy. François-Noël Buffet, a senator from the Rhône for around thirty years, could inherit the Ministry of Overseas Territories. Aged 61, this member of LR has chaired the Senate’s Law Commission since 2020. In recent years, he has notably participated in an information report on security problems in Mayotte and joined the Senate’s information mission on the institutional future of New Caledonia, recalls Public Sénat. François-Noël Buffet is one of the close associates of Bruno Retailleau, tipped for the Ministry of the Interior. He supported François Fillon during the 2016 LR primary with a view to the 2017 presidential election.

Severe towards Emmanuel Macron in recent months and refusing any rapprochement with Macronism, Bruno Retailleau is visibly preparing to take one of the key positions within the future government led by Michel Barnier. The president of the LR group in the Senate should inherit the Ministry of the Interior at Place Beauvau. The former close friend of François Fillon has notably defended in recent months a hard line against immigration and defended a tough policy in terms of internal security.

Present on Saturday at the demonstration organized in Marseille, Jean-Luc Mélenchon spoke and gave his opinion on the future government, which should be announced this Saturday evening. “Barnier has no future. His promised destiny is that he will be defeated in the National Assembly, probably on his budget project, and that he will fall thanks to a motion of censure if those who call themselves opposition continue to be. 18:32 – Xavier Iacovelli finally tipped for the Ministry of the Family, Laurence Garnier lead abandoned?
While Laurence Garnier, from the ranks of LR, was announced Friday evening at the Ministry of the Family, the reactions of the presidential party would have finally brought out another path. According to LCP, it is now Xavier Iacovelli who would be expected. The senator of Hauts de Seine, member of Renaissance and from the left wing of the party, could inherit the files of the Family and Childhood. Xavier Iacovelli had notably been charged at the beginning of the year by the Prime Minister of the time Gabriel Attal of a temporary mission on the support of single-parent families, recalls LCP. The announcement of the name of Laurence Garnier had been followed by many reactions among those close to Emmanuel Macron, in particular because of positions taken on abortion and for her support for La Manif pour tous in 2014.
