Prime Minister Michel Barniers government finally unveiled

The composition of the French government was revealed this Saturday, September 21, two and a half months after early legislative elections which did not produce an absolute majority in the National Assembly.

Matignon had announced on the evening of Thursday, September 19, that the government would be known before Sunday, September 22. It is done. After two and a half months of waiting and a few adjustments, the composition drawn up by Michel Barnier was finally unveiled this Saturday.

As expected, this new government is marked on the right. The former socialist deputy Didier Migaud is appointed Minister of Justice. The leader of the Republican senators Bruno Retailleau is appointed to the Interior. The MoDem Jean-Noël Barrot to Foreign Affairs. The Macronist deputy Antoine Armand is appointed Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry and the Macronist deputy Anne Genetet to National Education.

Demonstrations called by the left

The announcement comes as several thousand people demonstrated from Paris to Marseille to denounce the ” Macron-Barnier government “, at the call of France Insoumise, environmentalists and feminist, student and environmental associations. Around sixty rallies were announced in France, according to the LFI website. But the calls were poorly followed in the regions. There were just over 2,000 demonstrators in Marseille, according to the police headquarters, compared to 3,500 during the previous day of protest on September 7, 400 in Bordeaux, some 200 in Angoulême and Nantes, and a hundred in Strasbourg.
