It was in September 2023 that Heby municipality was hit by major floods. One of the worst affected places was Tegelvallen, the home of Heby AIF.
– We had laid a new lawn two years before, it was destroyed and a lot of other things too. The carpet alone cost 1.8 million, says Fredrik Boström, board member of Heby AIF.
After the flood, work began to restore the Tegelvallen. According to Fredrik Boström, it could never have been implemented without the support of the local population.
– The positive thing about the flood is that it united us. People helped and today we are very happy to see the new carpet in place. The brick embankment means a lot to the town, says Fredrik Boström.
Risk of another flood?
In May of this year, Heby municipality decided that a new embankment would be built to keep the water away from the sports field, a job that would be completed by the end of September. But with just over a week left until the end of the month, no work on site has started.
Madelene Rendlert, project manager at Heby municipality, says that the work has been delayed but should be ready by the beginning of October.
– The dikes are ready but have not been installed yet, says Madelene Rendlert.
