9:00 PM: Two arrests for Vianen explosion
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the explosion on Jan van Arkelstraat in Vianen earlier this month. Investigations had previously shown that the explosive was probably placed at the wrong house.
6:00 PM: One person killed in railway crossing accident
On the Soesterweg in Amersfoort, a passenger on a scooter was killed in an accident at a railway crossing tonight. The scooter was hit by a passing train.
3:30 PM: Major delay on A27 after accident
Traffic on the A27 between Bilthoven and the Rijnsweerd interchange must expect delays of up to almost an hour. Due to an accident involving multiple cars just past the Lunetten interchange. Until all cars have been recovered, only one lane will be open.
3:00 PM: Amersfoort building closed after discovery of laughing gas cylinders
A business premises on the Terminalweg in Amersfoort was closed today after a large quantity of laughing gas was found. The quantity was found after an anonymous tip, it concerns a total of 47 bottles. The possession, transport and production of laughing gas has been illegal in the Netherlands since 1 January.
For mayor Lucas Bolsius, safety was also a reason for the closure. “I also think of the risk of fire and explosion. The danger to the immediate surroundings is therefore an additional reason to close the business premises.”
11:00 am: Truck hits arrow car on A2
On the A2 near Vianen a truck collided with an arrow car. It is not clear why the driver missed the signals and crashed into the sign. No one was injured.
A traffic jam formed after the accident. Traffic is still moving slowly on the A2. The lane where the arrow car was standing is closed.
10:39 am: Motorcyclist seriously injured after accident in Nieuwegein
A 25-year-old man from Nieuwegein was seriously injured last night after a motorcycle accident. According to a police spokesperson, it was a single-vehicle accident. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance.
10:28 am: Amersfoort resident arrested for stabbing in Rotterdam
The man suspected of the fatal stabbing in Rotterdam last night is from Amersfoort. This was announced by the police. One man was killed, another victim was seriously injured.
06:00: 900 drivers checked during alcohol check
The Stichtse Vecht Police stopped 900 drivers for an alcohol and drug check in Maarssen and Breukelen. The check revealed that two people were driving under the influence of drugs. Six people had started driving under the influence of alcohol. One of them had his driver’s license confiscated.
01:00 am: Hotel evacuated due to mattress fire
A fire broke out in the Van der Valk Hotel in Leusden shortly after midnight. A mattress in one of the hotel rooms caught fire. 140 guests had to leave the hotel. It is not known when they could return.
