The Sahel region known for its scarce rains suffers from

The region’s climate is changing in such a way that heavy rains are becoming more common. West Africa is also flooded.

The Sahel region of central Africa has experienced heavy rains for several weeks. Sub-Saharan countries in the Sahel region, such as Nigeria, Niger, Mali and Chad, tend to have low rainfall.

Heavy rains have continued for weeks this year. According to news agencies, at least a thousand people have been killed and several hundreds of thousands have had to leave their homes.

For example, in northern Nigeria, the zoo in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, was filled with water, killing most of the animals. Some of the reptiles escaped with the water and are now moving through the flooded streets of the city. At the same time, the city’s prison wall collapsed and hundreds of prisoners were freed.

According to climate scientists, the climate of the Sahel region is changing in such a way that previously rare heavy rains are becoming more common.

In recent days, it has also rained heavily in North-West Africa, such as Morocco and Algeria, which has raised floods in, for example, the Algerian city of Bechar.
