After the Irish hunger strike film Hunger, his psychological erotic thriller Shame, the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave and a noir drama called Widows, he is now making a name for himself with a grueling World War film Curtain up for the trailer for Blitz:

London in World War II: After the German Luftwaffe attacks, nine-year-old George (Elliott Heffernan) is sent to the countryside by his mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan), where he is supposed to be safe. But the boy misses his mother and grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) so much that he boldly returns to East London, where he is anything but safe. Rita’s search for her son then becomes a nerve-racking ordeal.

Also starring are Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman and Sally Messham.

Sir Steve Rodney McQueen was born in Black and white photo in the Imperial War Museum inspired his film, he revealed in an interview with Deadline. The picture shows a small Afro-British boy all alone with a heavy suitcase as he is evacuated from the British capital in 1940 during the Second World War. “I just wanted to know who he was… What was his story?” Since there are no historical documents about the boy, the filmmaker invented one instead.

When will the war film Blitz be released?

The war film Blitz, written and directed by McQueen, will be released on 1 November 2024 in the cinema before it becomes available to stream on Apple TV+ on November 22nd of this year. You then have to spend 114 minutes either in the cinema seat or on the couch.
