WhatsApp is expanding its customization options! You will soon be able to change the theme of the instant messenger, by changing the color of the chat bubbles, like on Telegram.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messengers, which is hardly surprising given its efficient interface, the great security it offers – messages are end-to-end encrypted – and the many functions it offers and continues to add. However, there is one point where WhatsApp lags behind its competitors: customization. Indeed, there are only a few options to modify the interface of the messenger. It is only possible to choose between dark or light mode, and to replace the background of the discussions with an image or a photo. In short, it is impossible to change the colors of the bubbles, icons or tab bars. No wonder some users turn to third-party applications, which are more flexible and permissive!
But Meta, the parent company of the instant messenger, is working to give users more customization. Last August, elements pointing to this were discovered in the beta version of the Android application. This time, it is in the beta version 2.24.20.12 of the Android application that the specialized site WABetaInfo was able to test a little more the new function allowing to modify the theme for the message bubbles. A bit like what we find on Telegram!
WhatsApp Themes: Change Chat Bubble Color
The new customization feature will reportedly include a number of different themes – there are eleven of them so far. Selecting a theme will not only change the color of the bubbles, but also the background of the conversations, in order to provide a consistent interface. But it is also possible to change the background independently of the color of the bubbles.
Since this is a default chat theme, it will be applied automatically to all our conversations, but it is possible that, later, we can set a different theme for each discussion. For the moment, the function does not seem as permissive as on Telegram, which allows you to create your own theme using a color palette. As for group conversations, the theme will only be visible to the user. The function is still under development, but it should be available to everyone, on both iOS and Android, in a future update.
Note that a small improvement has also been made to the dark mode. Rather than simply switching from light mode to dark mode, a slider will allow you to position yourself somewhere in between.
By integrating customization features, WhatsApp is aligning itself with the general trend in instant messaging, which consists of giving us more and more control over the application interface. And this is a very good thing, especially for people with visual impairments or who need a specific color for greater personal visual comfort. There is no doubt that the possibility of changing the main color of the theme will make the application much more user-friendly and comfortable!
