Regional energy strategy

The province of Utrecht and the three regions are faced with the challenge of generating 2.4 terawatt hours (TWh) of sustainable energy together by 2030. This is necessary to achieve the climate goals and make the transition to cleaner energy.

2.4 TWh is enough power to supply around 800,000 households with electricity each year. This requires more windmills and solar fields than the municipalities can currently provide.

If no additional initiatives are forthcoming soon, the province will designate locations for wind energy itself. The province has previously announced that there are 27 areas where multiple wind turbines would fit.
