This rather disgusting scam had already been denounced in the south of France three years ago, and has just claimed a new victim in Loir-et-Cher. Elderly people are the preferred targets.
Scams are multiplying in France, as are schemes. Scammers compete in inventiveness to steal their victims’ property, by diverting their attention on the road, by phone or in the streets. And most of the time, they achieve their goal without any aggression. This is the case with this scam which had already claimed several victims in the south of France in 2021, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales and in Hérault. This September 3, 2024, a new person fell victim in the town of Blois, in Loir-et-Cher, reports La Nouvelle République.
A woman was walking down the street near the cathedral on a sunny day… When she felt “something wet on his back.” In a polite manner, two men approach her to offer her tissues. They started to wipe my back and showed me something that looked like seagull droppings, it didn’t smell good, I had it on my hair and on my backpack“. The two men, “of Asian type according to the regional daily, would have rubbed his back before suddenly disappearing.”I didn’t notice anything. They weren’t aggressive, quite the opposite.” she confided.
Once she got home, the woman noticed that her pendant, the one her husband had given her, had been ripped off. After doing some research on the Internet, her husband understood what had happened. The two men were obviously not “nice” and helpful for nothing. They were the ones who had soiled the victim to steal her jewelry while they were drying her.
A new scheme that bears his name: the bird droppings scam, and which mainly targets the elderly and vulnerable. Criminals who use this technique can also target your bank cards, your mobile phone, your money or your wallet. It is therefore advisable to remain vigilant in all circumstances.
