It is considered one of the best films of recent

Five years ago, the hype and triumph of Parasite, the South Korean social drama by filmmaker Bong Joon-ho (Snowpiercer), began. It won the Palme d’Or in Cannes and then historically won four important Oscars at the Oscars in February 2020. And that as a non-English-language film.

Anyone who has missed the masterpiece until today can stream now completely free. But not for much longer.

Stream Parasite for free: The Korean masterpiece that wrapped the world around its finger

The Kim family from Seoul, who are as close-knit as they are poor, are constantly trying to keep themselves afloat financially. Even with less than ideal means, as is shown when their son Ki-woo (Choi Wook-shik) uses fake certificates to get a job as an English tutor for the wealthy Park family. The rich prove to be relatively naive and so it is easy for the Kims to smuggle in their daughter Ki-jung (Park So-dam) as an art therapist, their father Ki-taek (Song Kang-ho) as a driver and their mother Chung-sook (Jang Hye-jin) as a housekeeper.

Just when you think you know what Parasite is trying to do with you as a tragicomic social drama, the film surprises you and becomes a real thriller in the second half. You’re just wondering who the parasites are in the Kim Park scenario, and then the audience has to deal with the strange goings-on in the basements of the wealthy… and the escalation that follows.

Where else can I stream Parasite for free?

The ARD media library still has the film until 21 September at 00:15 available for free viewing. However, since Parasite is only available for people aged 16 and over, you must register with an ARD account before 10 p.m.

Alternatively, the film can be seen with flat rates from MUBI and the Amazon channel superfresh. Or as a rental or purchase title from the usual suspects such as Amazon, Apple TV and MagentaTV.

And if you still need films to stream afterwards…
