With Season 6, the developers of Diablo 4 are changing how progress works in the ARPG. Diablo boss Rod Fergusson compares the extent to the changes to the loot system in Season 4.
Season 6 starts on October 9th and changes the progression system in Diablo 4, including the difficulty levels. Previously, there was often criticism of the world levels from the community, which is why Blizzard is completely throwing them out the window. But the level system is also changing fundamentally.
What is Blizzard changing about progress? Due to the change in the difficulty levels, leveling takes place fundamentally differently. You no longer move from world level to world level, but unlock the next difficulty levels in the pit.

Why does Fergusson compare this to Season 4? In Season 4 there were massive changes to the loot system. The goal was to have fewer item drops, but they should be of better quality. Since then there has been a smaller pool of affixes, but they are more suitable and stronger.
In addition, the aspects were moved to the Codex of Power and no longer clog up your chests. In addition, two new crafting systems were introduced: Tempering and Completion. This is intended to give players a sense of progress. Overall, the changes were so extensive that players found that Diablo 4 felt like a new game.
In Season 6, Blizzard is essentially overhauling the entire system of how leveling and difficulty levels work in Diablo 4 β and with it core mechanics of the ARPG.
Diablo boss Rod Fergusson said in an interview with VGC:
What we like to say is: What Season 4 did for the loot system, Season 6 does for progression. Players are going to see a lot of really interesting changes in how we handle the Paragon system, difficulty, and leveling. We’re really excited for players to experience all of these changes in Season 6.
The developers are planning a livestream in which they will explain what Season 6 will bring to the game. The season is available to all players, whether they own the “Vessel of Hatred” expansion or not, emphasizes Rod Fergusson in an interview.
The test for Season 6 on the PTR was well received by players and experts. The bases in particular were praised as a “new” option for leveling, but so were the changes to the pit. But there was also criticism. Two experts think that the new difficulty levels in Diablo 4 are too easy. The torment levels in particular were announced to be harder than they were on the PTR. It remains to be seen to what extent Blizzard will make changes in this regard.
