The Chinese car brand Nio, which is known for offering battery replacements for its electric cars as an alternative to charging, has had a solid start in Sweden.
Among other things, they seem to have had difficulty keeping track of their invoices.
The owners of a Nio ET7 recently became aware, after their car was stolen from a parking lot in central Malmö, reports Carup.se.
Not an ordinary lease car
Nio ET7 is the brand’s large luxury sedan, which January and Nicoleta Pettersson chose to take out a leasing subscription at the end of last year. The price tag for a Nio ET7 is north of SEK 800,000, and the subscription costs, according to Carup, over SEK 10,000 a month.
Last week, the car was towed away by Parkering Malmö when, according to Jan Pettersson, it was legally parked in the central parts of the city.

The fact that the car was towed away is because the city of Malmö has a routine of impounding cars whose owners have unpaid debts for incorrect parking, congestion tax, infrastructure charges or vehicle taxes.
It can be about both debts to the Swedish Transport Agency and the Swedish Crown Enforcement Officer, and a new law intended to reach car goalkeepers means that a car can be seized without warning if the debts exceed SEK 5,000.

Nio Sverige has such debts according to a manager at Parkering Malmö.
– At the time the car was impounded, the debt was SEK 13,750. Today, the debt is SEK 3,996. To get the car back, the registered owner NIO Nextev Sweden AB must pay the entire debt, the administrator told Carup.
Several unpaid debts
According to Carup, Nio Sweden has had a large number of unpaid congestion taxes with the Kronofogden.
It concerns a total of 19 debt cases that have been enforced, as well as 20 applications for payment orders totaling SEK 261,000.
At present, according to Carup, most things seem to have been paid, and the debts Parkering Malmö refers to are therefore probably to the Swedish Transport Agency.

Contrary to the information from Parkering Malmö, Nio Sweden initially states that the car was towed away because the car was illegally parked, and tells Carup that all subscription cars are registered and that no customers are at risk of having their cars towed away.
Later they change their minds to the fact that the car was towed away because the Petterssons have unpaid parking fees.
– According to the information we received from Malmöstad, the car has been removed due to several parking notices. For us with a growing Subscription fleet, it is natural that, for example, parking and congestion charges from the Swedish Transport Agency temporarily end up with us before the claim is made to each individual driver. The management of this process takes place on a daily basis and any outstanding claims are settled on an ongoing basis, he states Gustaf Sjöholm at Nio Sweden to Carup.
Gustaf Sjöholm also says that the company is in ongoing discussion with the affected driver, the Swedish Transport Agency and the city of Malmö about the matter of the stolen car. He also emphasizes that the company has no debts with the Kronofogden.
