Valtteri Filppula managed to score right away in his first Mestis match in the Joker’s shirt. The captain of the team shouted at the home crowd of the Helsinki Ice Hall right at the start of the second period. Filppula ran through and stylishly shot the puck into Tuto’s goal.

The last time Filppula played for the Nordis was during the NHL lockout, at the end of 2012 in the HIFK–Jokerit match. During the lockout, Filppula represented the Jokeris in 16 matches, where he collected 15 power-play marks.

In the spring of 2022, Filppula joined the rare “three gold hockey club”. At that time, he became the first Finn ever to win the Stanley Cup, the Olympic gold and the world championship in his career.

Jokerit leads the match in the second set with a score of 3–0. The game is still in progress.
