Omer and Marilyn Hageniers enjoyed traveling in their retired years and were involved in many community groups and charities, their obit says.

“Too many to mention,” it says.

Omer was a successful engineer who had a passion for entrepreneurial endeavors as well as mentoring people in the industry and Marilyn was a compassionate nurse who found great joy in helping families navigate palliative journeys, it continues.

“She had a gentle soul that kept in touch with all those whose lives she helped,” it says.

But for the longtime couple, who leave behind many relatives including their children, grandchildren and siblings, their ultimate joy was to care for family and celebrate their happy times together, their obit says.

“They leave us with the gift of their love and we will miss them beyond words,” it says.

A memorial service for the couple, who both went to Kingsville District high school, is set for Wednesday afternoon in Windsor ahead of Thursday morning’s funeral service. Family members weren’t available Tuesday for an interview.

Two Windsor seniors die after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer at Inwood Road and Courtright Line in Brooke-Alvinston on Wednesday around 1 pm, Lambton OPP said last week. The 77-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, 79, died shortly after being flown by helicopter to hospital, police said.

Police didn’t release their names.

This is the second fatal crash at the same intersection, about 40 minutes southeast of Sarnia and an hour southwest of London, in two years. Cameron Wilcox, a 67-year-old tanker truck driver from St. Thomas who was later lauded as a hero, died and six people were taken to hospital after a collision there on Aug. 23, 2022. That crash took place on the northeast corner while Wednesday’s was on the southeast corner.

Following a second fatal crash at the same intersection in two years, Brooke-Alvinston Mayor David Ferguson said last week he’s called a Lambton County roads official about potential safety improvements there, although both he and Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott said they haven’t been approached by any concerned residents about the issue.
