With this trick you can get one of the most popular characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 as a companion

In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are ten different characters that you can recruit on your journey. Unfortunately, Alfira, a Tiefling bard who many fans have taken to their hearts, is not one of them. But one player managed the seemingly impossible and explains how you can get Alfira as a companion.

Who is Alfira? Alfira is a purple-haired Tiefling bard. You can meet her early in the game in the Emerald Grove, where she’s working on an ending for her song. If you’re clever, Alfira can even teach you how to play like a bard yourself – regardless of your own class.

The bard is so likeable the whole time that many players wish they could recruit her as a traveling companion.

  • So far, however, Alfira is not an official companion.
  • A romance with Alfira is also not possible, as this can only be entered into with companions.
  • Warning spoilers: The article contains spoilers about Alfira and the “Dark Urge” character.

The long procedure – How to get Alfira

Even though you can’t officially get Alfira as a companion, there is a trick to have her on your team.

Who can get Alfira? For the trick to work, you must play as a “Dark Urge” character. Only then will you be able to (temporarily) invite Alfira to your camp.

How do you get Alfira? To get Alfira as a companion, a few steps must be followed. cenalexis_01 explains in a Reddit post how he did it:

  • Don’t rest for long
  • Completed Act 1, Goblins vs. Emerald Grove
  • Go to the Adamant Forge
  • Let Alfira join the camp (make sure you have enough room for her in your party), kill the Dark Urge character and put him in your bag. The player says he did this with a Tav in multiplayer and has no idea if it works with other companions
  • Go to the “Last Light Inn” and talk to Alfira who is sitting there on her chair, talk to her and get her quest: Save the Tieflings in the “Towers of the Moonrise” (still no long rest)
  • Receive the robe as a reward
  • Kill Alfira and put her in your pocket
  • Take a long rest until Quill comes to your camp (since the scene was postponed and not skipped, it will appear), kill Quill and rest again until Sceleritas Fel appears and gives you the cloak
  • Revive Alfira at Withers

    Will Larian give in soon?

In the comments of the Reddit post, players joke about how unnecessarily complicated this path is:

  • “It’s overcomplicated, unnecessary and totally pointless. In short: I love it!” (Dimirosch via Reddit)
  • At the same time, some are speculating whether there might soon be an official way to get Alfira as a companion:

  • “It’s going to be a hilarious game of cat and mouse with Larian until they finally give in and let us recruit Alfira, like they did with Minthara.” (geologean via Reddit)
  • “The method will be perfected in the coming weeks, and then there will be a patch with an official, much easier method to recruit them. We call this the Minthara Theory.” (AtlasFlynn via Reddit)
  • It remains to be seen whether Alfira will actually become an officially playable companion at some point. There is no official information from the developer “Larian Studios” yet.

If you play as Dark Urge, Alfira’s fate is usually very tragic. This was also discovered by a father who accidentally broke his 14-year-old son’s heart: A gamer plays Baldur’s Gate 3 with his 14-year-old son and accidentally breaks his heart
