FDA Approves Apple Watch Sleep Apnea Feature

Apple Watch world’s new health feature for sleep apnea detection approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) receipt.

The FDA approval for the sleep apnea feature, which will be offered on the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models, has secured its official release. Apple itself said the following about this feature: conveying: “With Apple Watch Series 10’s new compact design and faster charging, wearing your watch while sleeping is both more comfortable and easier. Apple Watch now includes a feature that helps identify signs of sleep apnea, a condition in which users can track important health measurements throughout the night, such as heart rate, respiratory rate and wrist temperature. Sleep apnea is a serious condition in which breathing stops repeatedly during sleep. It is estimated that this condition affects more than 1 billion people worldwide and is often undiagnosed. If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to serious health problems, including high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.”

The following is also said on this subject: “To detect sleep apnea, Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to track small wrist movements associated with interruptions in normal breathing patterns, which are tracked with the new Breathing Disturbance metric. While some breathing disturbances are normal, tracking this data helps users understand whether they are sleeping well throughout the night and whether frequent breathing disturbances over several nights may be related to sleep apnea.

“The new apnea algorithm analyzes the breathing disorder data, and if there are signs of sleep apnea, Apple Watch sends a notification to the user. This notification includes the time period when the possible sleep apnea occurred, educational materials about the importance of treatment, and a PDF of the last three months of breathing disorder data that users can share with their doctor.”
