“A bit disappointing” – Season 6’s big new feature fails to impress players

The new content from Season 6 was available for a week on the Diablo 4 PTR. Players tested the upcoming features and gave feedback. After the game ended, fans talked about what was good and what was bad. And the most important new items were not well received.

What kind of feature is this?

Diablo 4 players are critical of the new rune words

This is what the players say: In a large discussion on Reddit with hundreds of comments, users talk and argue about how good the new rune words are and what could be improved about them.

The general consensus is that in their current state, the rune words are not particularly good. Some of them are fun, but they lack variety and exciting gameplay. The biggest criticisms are:

  • Runes that trigger certain effects or cause direct damage are too weak.
  • In the end, you only need a handful of the dozens of runes to really improve; there is hardly any variation.
  • All this is just “another layer of multiplicative power creep.”
  • Expert Raxxanterax sees it similarly. He says in his video: The runes are quite good and fun, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. Especially in the upper range of the builds, you will only see a few runes – those that make already strong builds even stronger instead of introducing new mechanics.

Raxxanterax says that if the runes were a bit “crazier” and granted abilities that aren’t in the game yet, they would be much more interesting. They would need the same overhaul as the unique items in Season 5.

“Runewords will be revamped and improved with Season 7”

The community doubts that the runes will change significantly before Season 6 starts on October 8. There is not enough time for that. Blizzard can still adjust a few numbers, but no more than that.

Fans expect that runes and runewords will enter the game in a perhaps acceptable, but not great, state, and will then be reworked for the following Season 7.

Blizzard has taken player feedback into account in recent seasons and has always tried to make changes in a timely manner. This has earned the developers a lot of praise and Diablo 4 is considered a good game among players at the moment.

How much the runes will change remains to be seen. After all, Vessel of Hatred, the game’s first expansion, will be released at the same time as Season 6, and with it even more content that may need to be worked on. And at least on the PTR, some pretty crazy builds were possible: Broken builds do so much damage that the numbers are no longer displayed.
