Handball: Skara close to a super turnaround – but fell to Skuru after tenth period drama

Home team Skuru made a real push at the end of the first half and went to the break with a six-ball lead 17-11.

But in the second half the lead shrunk when Skara improved. The team took out the goalkeeper early on and middle six Sofia Berndtsson and left six Melanie Felber poured in goals for the guests in periods.

And the last seconds of the match were highly dramatic.

At 29-28, Skara’s goalie saved a shot with four seconds left on the clock – passed to Melanie Felber who put the ball into the net – but too late. According to the referee’s decision, 60 minutes had already passed.

Felber: “Talked a bit with the referee after”

And instead Skuru, who won the regular season last season but lost the semifinal series against Önnered in the playoffs, got to celebrate a premiership victory.

– It was tight there at the end, but we’ll sort it out and it’s the win that counts. You just have to be happy about it, says Skuru’s loyal servant Alexandra Bjärrenholt after the match.

Melanie Felber, who was behind the disallowed last goal, was disappointed afterwards but at the same time seemed to buy the verdict.

– I talked a little with the judge afterwards and out of pure curiosity I wondered if it was the delegate or the judges. There are two judges on the field who have the feeling that it will not make it to the finish line and the delegate had the same feeling – then it will be difficult to object, she says.
