Michael Jackson’s older brother died this weekend at the age of 70.
The Jackson family is in mourning again. They have just lost Tito, the older brother of Michael Jacksonas announced by their former manager, Steve Manning. The former member of the Jackson Five has breathed his last at the age of 70. The third of nine Jackson children, he was the backing singer and guitarist for the group formed with Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, which achieved worldwide success with hits such as ABC and I Want You Back. After the band split, Tito took a step back before returning to the blues and releasing two solo albums in 2016 and 2021.
The latter was still on stage: on September 9, he performed alongside Marlon and Jackie in Munich, under the pseudonym The Jacksons. Before going on stage, the trio had gone to the city’s memorial, erected in honor of their brother who died in 2009. “We are deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory, but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive,” he had captioned on social networks. Tito was to continue performing, including on October 25 in Atlantic City.
While the official cause of his death has not been confirmed, according to the family’s former manager at Entertainment Tonightthe musician reportedly died of a heart attack at the wheel of his car while on a road trip.
His sons, who formed the group 3T, paid tribute on Instagram to the man they considered “an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.” Tito also leaves behind nine grandchildren.
