The gigantic Transformers franchise has been a huge success with its material battles since 1984. In 2007, the series was reborn for the cinema with Transformers, in which Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox get caught up in a civil war between huge robots.
Today on TV: Robot species beats each other’s heads in Transformers
On the planet Cybertron lives a race of highly developed robots that can transform into other forms. The world was once ruled jointly by Optimus Prime and Megatron, until the power-hungry Megatron triggered a civil war. Earthling Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) gets caught up in this material battle, having no idea that his newly acquired car is also a Transformer.
Transformers is the best part of the series, which will continue next month
Sometimes you should stop when things are going well, that’s what Steven Spielberg advised Transformers director Michael Bay, who made five films for the series. Admittedly, all of them were a resounding success, but not without criticism of the escalating action. Part 1 is the most balanced and best part of the series, says our editor Matthias Hopf.
The film manages to skillfully maneuver through the battlefieldn “without losing your bearings too often in the CGI storm. The dynamics of the film seem ever more impressive in retrospect.”
The first part has become a 5.2 billion dollar franchise. Parts 3 and 4 alone brought in over a billion US dollars at the box office, but since then the numbers have dropped noticeably. The most recent release was Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which had the worst result with 439 million euros.
But fans can rejoice, there is no end in sight. In addition to other planned films, Transformers One, a fully animated film in the series, will be released in October. You can win tickets for a preview of this film from us.
If you want to see how the live-action series began, you should definitely tune in today.
