Iranian female prisoners started a hunger strike including Nobel

The women’s protest movement started when a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Jina Mahsa Amin, died after being beaten by Iran’s morality police.

In Iran, a group of female prisoners have started a hunger strike to draw attention to the protests that started two years ago. A Nobel laureate tells about it By Narges Mohammad founded by the foundation.

Political women prisoners in the notorious Evin prison want to honor the second anniversary of the “Women, life and freedom” movement.

The movement was born when a 22-year-old Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amin died after being beaten by Iran’s moral police. She was accused of wearing a scarf inappropriately. Young women risked their lives to take to the streets to protest and demand their rights.

Mohammadi himself has been imprisoned since November 2021 in Evin prison in Tehran. He is one of Iran’s best-known human rights activists and has spent much of the last decade in prison.

Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work as a champion of women’s rights in Iran last year. There are 34 female prisoners on hunger strike.
