World-class player could miss LoL Worlds 2024 because his old team is suing him

South Korean player Lee “Scout” Ye-Chan has already qualified for the League of Legends World Championship. But because of trouble with a former team, he could still miss the LoL Worlds 2024. It all depends on whether his former team sues him or not.

This is the situation: Scout is a great mid laner. He won the World Championship in 2021. Scout has been playing for the Chinese team LNG Esports since December 2022.

LNG Esports won the Regional Qualifier tournament and secured China’s 3rd place at Worlds 2024.

But Scout could still miss the LoL Worlds 2024 because his former team could prevent him from traveling to Europe, where the Worlds are taking place this year.

His former team could ruin Scout’s LoL Worlds 2024

Why is he not allowed to travel there? Scout played for Chinese team EDward Gaming from March 2016 to December 2022 before moving to LNG Esports.

But a former team believes the move was not above board. EDward Gaming accuses Scout of having agreed to move to a team in the South Korean LCK in 2022 while he was still under contract with EDward Gaming.

The move to South Korea ultimately did not materialize and Scout moved to LNG Esports in China, but EDward Gaming’s lawsuit still looms.

Given the current situation, EDward Gaming could impose a travel ban on Scout so that he stays in China and is not allowed to fly to Europe for the LoL Worlds. According to a report from a Korean news site, EDward Gaming is considering just such a lawsuit to obtain a travel ban.

What would the consequences be? LNG Esports would need a replacement for the mid lane, which they cannot provide from their own squad.

Possible alternatives to replace Scout are Rookie and Doinb.
