The astronauts will vote in the US election from space

The two American astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are stranded in space until next year.
Despite that, they will vote in the US election on November 5.
– It’s pretty cool, says Williams at a press conference from space.

The two American astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have been stranded on the International Space Station ISS since June 5. Their journey home has been postponed several times after there were problems with the spacecraft.

At the end of August, it was announced that the two astronauts can only be brought home in February next year. This was announced by Nasa.

On Friday, Williams and Wilmore held a press conference from space. They say they appreciate that people care about their well-being on the space station.

– I just want everyone to know how much we appreciate it. It warms the heart, says Butch Wilmore.

They also note that it has been “a trying time” and that it was hard to see the spacecraft leave without them – which Nasa felt was not safe enough to take them home to Earth.

Voices – from space

But the good news is that the astronauts will be able to vote in the presidential election on November 5 – from space.

“We should be getting the ballots in the next few weeks,” Wilmore said, adding that he was happy to be able to cast his vote from the International Space Station.

Sunita Williams agrees.

– It’s pretty cool, she says.

Williams adds that she misses her family, her two dogs and friends.

– I know they understand. I know it’s tough for them too, she says.
