League ice hockey returned to Espoo in a confusing way

The match between Kiekko-Espoo and HIFK had to be stopped for a while in the opening minutes.

When last time league hockey was played in Espoo, Blues beat SaiPa 4–2 on March 7, 2016.

Now Kiekko-Espoo played its first home match of the season when it hosted HIFK. The same teams faced each other on Tuesday in the opening round, then on Helsinki’s side, and HIFK won 5–2.

The other SM league matches started on Friday evening at 18:30, but in Espoo they started an hour later. The beginning of the match was special. Heat and humidity caused problems. There was such a thick fog over the ice that you could barely make out what was happening in the TV pictures.

The referee stopped the match and the players skated around the ice to clear the fog.

The ice hockey tour at Areena follows Friday’s matches.
