Sven-Göran Eriksson’s last wish for the funeral to be stopped

Sven-Göran Eriksson was taken to his final resting place on Friday.
Before he died, he had a final wish regarding his own funeral – but it has been denied due to regulations.

August 26 passed Sven-Göran Eriksson away in the suites of pancreatic cancer. He lived to be 76 years old. During Friday, his funeral was held in Torsby, where he grew up, in Fryksände church. 600 people were present inside the church to honor his memory, of which 150 were specially invited guests. Torsby residents stood outside and followed the ceremony on a large screen.

Last wish in life

“Svennis” certainly grew up in Torsby, but he was born in Sunne. Both resorts are located right by Värmland’s lake Fryken. During his last years of life, he spent a lot of time at his property Björkefors manor. The farm is located between Sunne and Torsby.

The lake has meant a lot to Sven-Göran and he told in the newly produced documentary “Svennis” that he would like to have his ashes spread there. It was one of the icon’s absolute last wishes in life.

– It is a beautiful place. It makes one calm. It calms me down. The mountain there below the mountain, my father grew up there. If you look straight ahead, Torsby is where I grew up. In the other direction is Sunne, where I was born. I always thought it was a good place to sleep at. The ashes can be thrown into the water here. It feels like home, he says in the documentary.

Found alternative solution

Unfortunately, “Svenni’s” family has encountered the patrol. It is forbidden to scatter the ashes in the water. The regulations state that it is not allowed to carry out the football coach’s wishes.

– You must not spread the ashes in Fryken, says his agent Bo Gustavsson to TT.

Instead, they have had to find an alternative solution. They will spread “Svenni’s” ashes on a piece of land near his farm. There they have been given the go-ahead to let him rest.

– We have received permission from the county administration and landowners to spread it over land adjacent to where he lived, says Gustavsson.

Rest in peace, Sven-Göran. There are many of us who are thinking of you and wish you all the best in heaven.
