Cybercriminals are making a grand comeback! After Boulanger, Truffaut and Cultura, it is now the turn of the Retirement Insurance to be the victim of a hack! Indeed, the National Old Age Insurance Fund (Cnav) is one of the organizations affected by the wave of hacking that has affected several companies in France in recent days. Thus, the personal data of some 370,000 people was stolen via an Internet portal intended for social action providers for retirees. It has since been taken out of service, and everything is currently being done to restore it. Among the data stolen by the hackers are addresses, social security numbers and approximate amounts of users’ resources. Valuable information, which could very well be used by dishonest people to develop sophisticated phishing campaigns or for identity theft purposes.

Retirement Insurance Hack: Social Security Numbers Stolen

In his press releasethe Cnav nevertheless wants to be reassuring. “Most of the data is old: some of the people concerned have died, for example.”she said. “No banking data, no data relating to payments, retirement, career or benefits paid have been compromised”.

The data was stolen via account hijackings of service providers using a portal called the Social Action Partners Portal. The organization has “apologized to those affected by the accident” and indicates “take constant care to constantly adjust the IT security systems on its network.”

The stolen data is already being put up for sale on a specialized forum on the Dark Web, through the same account that offered the stolen data from the Truffaut, Cultura and Boulanger stores. A complaint was filed and a report to the CNIL was then made, as is customary. The people concerned have also been contacted.
