The wooden coffin was brought into the brick-red church early Friday morning.

Sven-Göran Eriksson, who died quickly almost three weeks ago from the complications of pancreatic cancer, will be buried starting at 10 a.m. in Torsby, where he grew up.

The music at Svenni’s funeral

His wish was that the ceremony would be a popular and happy moment – there will be New Orleans jazz and maybe something from Sven-Ingvar’s song catalog.

And in the benches sit a lot of family and friends, people from all over Värmland, but also some famous names that “Svennis” met during his long coaching career.

Including superstar David Beckham, who landed at Karlstad Airport on Thursday, Roy Hodgson, former national team captain for England, and football journalist Henry Winter.

Just before nine o’clock son Johan and daughter Lina Eriksson arrived at the church, also former soccer players Glenn Hysén and Kim Källström took their seats.

— He wanted a party, but it’s hard for us to be in a party mood. But we will do our best to lift the sadness and fog, says writer and childhood friend Bengt Berg.

    The food at Svenni’s funeral

For those who cannot fit under the arches, an 11.5 square meter TV screen has been set up outside and many TV companies will broadcast live.

Afterwards, the procession goes from the church to the Kollsberg homestead, a little over half a kilometer from there by Övre Frykens strand, to remember, to eat motti (porridge), Värmland’s regional dish, have a coffee and maybe get a mollusk, a classic pastry at the Wiener patisserie in Torsby.
