Campaign aims to collect supplies for Six Nations students, schools

A “stuff the bus” campaign is underway in Six Nations to help collect supplies for area students and schools for back to school.

Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, along with its Six Nations Bingo division, recently announced the return of the annual campaign.

School supplies will be collected until August 24 from bingo bosses to help Six Nation schools and students prepare for the upcoming school year, a SNGRDC release stated.

Donations can be made at the Six Nations Bingo Hall at 2585 Chiefswood Rd. Any patrons that donate will receive a bingo card to be used in a special game planned for the final day of the campaign.

Donations from this campaign will be given out to seven local schools in the Six Nations territory — Emily C. General, IL Thomas, Oliver M. Smith, JC Hill, Jamieson, Skaronhyase’kó:wa The Everlasting Tree School, and Kawenni:io /Gaweni:yo.

On Aug. 24, representatives from all seven schools will be present during the games to collect all the campaign donations.

“I am pleased to see the return of Stuff the Bus, as it gives us an additional avenue to contribute to the education and success of Six Nations students,” said Waylon Iserhoff, chief operating officer of SNGRDC, in the release.

“I encourage our bingo customers, both new and returning, to participate in the campaign by making a donation to help our students thrive during the upcoming school year.”

Suggested donations of school equipment and supplies include:

  • School supplies: whiteboard markers, glue sticks, rulers, pencils, erasers, pens, sharpies, highlighters, whiteout, pencil cases, staplers and staples, staple removers, tape, calculators, scissors, binders, dividers, file folders, duotangs, clipboards, notebooks, paint, paint brushes, watercolor paper, electric pencil sharpener, washable markers, permanent markers, crayons, pencil crayons, construction paper, printer paper, lined paper, sketch books, colored Bristol board, plastic paper sleeves, art supplies, index cards , paper clips, tissue boxes, paper towels, batteries (AA and AAA)
  • School recreation: playing cards, playdough, kinetic sand, magnet tiles, sports equipment, chalk, balls, sunscreen, 2′ x 2′ sensory bin
  • Student supplies: backpacks, lunch bags/boxes, water bottles, hygiene products, umbrellas, coats, boots/shoes, gloves, hats, socks.
