David Beckham was named team captain when Sven-Göran Eriksson was England captain from 2001-2006 and they developed a close relationship.
As recently as June, Beckham was on a secret visit to Björkefors mansion to meet “Svennis” one last time. In connection with the passing of the Värmland coaching legend, Beckham told about the visit on Instagram.
“We laughed, we cried, and we knew we were saying goodbye. Sven, thank you for always being the same person. I am forever grateful that you made me your team captain,” the 49-year-old wrote at the time.
David Beckham on site in Värmland again
Now the Englishman is in place in Värmland again to attend “Svenni’s” funeral on Friday.
Information first claimed that his wife Victoria would also be on the plane, but it was only David Beckham who stepped out of the large private plane and was driven in a car to passport control. There he got out, hid his face and disappeared into the airport. He then went out again to the waiting car and was driven out of the airport by the back.
What remained was a large number of media representatives and about 15 fans who caught a glimpse of the superstar, but not much else.
