Sony Reveals Black Myth Wukong Is Number 1 In Sales

Black Myth Wukong’s 10 million sales in the space of three days has caused a lot of talk, both in the industry and on social media. For many people, this success was only the work of China and its 1.4 billion inhabitants, in full support of the first AAA sent by the country internationally. A somewhat narrow vision, which some have even described as trivialized racism. With the help of statistics that came out of nowhere and were made only three days after the game’s release, self-proclaimed experts and analysts on Twitter immediately deduced that 90% of Black Myth Wukong’s sales had been recorded in China. But it seems that the reality is quite different, especially since Sony shared the ranking of the best-selling PS5 games on his blog. In view of an August that was certainly less cluttered than the Christmas period, two big titles were competing just before the start of the school year: Black Myth Wukong and Star Wars Outlaws. But whether in the United States or in Europe, it is the title from the Chinese studios Game Science that rises to the top of the ranking in the West. Proof that the game has managed to seduce this international audience, not always very open to Chinese culture, and even less to its mythology.

These figures, which only include digital sales on the PlayStation Store for the month of August, also show that Star Wars Outlaws is among the best-selling PS5s in neither the United States nor Europe. For a game that is considered AAAA (4x A, meaning a colossal production budget) at Ubisoft and that required more than 5/6 years of development, this is obviously a disappointment. Recently, the analysis firm JP Morgan said Star Wars Outlaws “struggled to meet sales expectations despite positive critical reviews,” forcing Ubisoft to revise its targets downwards and which would now expect 5.5 million sales instead of the 7.5 million hoped for. In the United States as in Europe, Star Wars Outlaws is selling less well than GTA V, a game released eleven years ago. There is reason to question itself within Ubisoft.
