New expansion for one of the best MMORPGs now lets you earn loot from bosses for the entire guild

Today, September 12, 2024, the new expansion for Black Desert, Land of the Morning Light: Seoul, will be released. You can expect tough boss challenges, detailed recreations of Korean regions and much more.

What do I need to know about Land of the Morning Light: Seoul? The new expansion for Black Desert will be released on September 12, 2024 for PC, builds on the hugely successful add-on Land of the Morning Light from last year and takes you to the second half of the Asian-inspired continent.

Key features of Land of the Morning Light: Seoul include:

  • Continuation of the story from Land of the Morning Light and a reunion with various familiar characters from the previous expansion.
  • 8 longer quest series in which you can make smaller decisions to influence the respective ending. You can expect a mix of political intrigue and Asian folklore, as if the series (or the film or the book) “Shogun” and the classic “A Chinese Ghost Story” had a child.
  • 10 new instanced bosses that you can challenge as a 5-player group on two difficulty levels to climb the corresponding rankings and earn special loot. 6 of the bosses will be available at launch, the rest will follow gradually.
  • 4 new world bosses spread across the new region.
  • New “Lord” weapons that can not only be upgraded, but also customized with up to five different buffs (and also visually).
  • There is a new estate that you can earn.

Blows for bosses and love for guilds

How can I earn loot for the entire guild? The instanced boss battles mentioned above were part of the “Black Shrine,” which was introduced last year with Land of the Morning Light. Until now, solo challenges awaited you there. The new opponents, however, are aimed at 5-player groups.

If you’re not looking for random dudes for the fun, but rather four guild colleagues, you can look forward to additional rewards, not just for yourself, but for the entire guild. The more guild groups your community can get excited about the “Black Shrine”, the more loot awaits you – an exciting concept!

What else is special about the new expansion? Similar to the previous expansion, the Korean developers at Pearl Abyss are once again taking the opportunity to bring you closer to Korean heritage through the setting. For example, they worked with the Office of Cultural Heritage Management to recreate famous places like the majestic Gyeongbokgung Palace one-to-one in the game.

How beginner-friendly is the Seoul expansion? Unlike Land of the Morning Light from last year, the newly released expansion will not provide another starting point for beginners. In fact, the opposite is the case: If you want to play the new Seoul quests, you must have mastered the main quests of the last add-on (up to the quest “A Clue to the Truth”).

Otherwise, the new challenges are aimed at characters with level 56 or higher and a certain quality of equipment. The toughest difficulty level of the new “Black Shrine” bosses should make even experienced veterans sweat.

What is the further schedule? The new class awakening of the Dosa is set to come into play in September. With its “yin and yang” gameplay, it fits perfectly into the Asian setting of the expansion.

The Tier 2 Lanterns of Dehkia will also be released as soon as possible, allowing you to upgrade selected monster zones for the grind. Tier 2 is of course even more difficult than the Tier 1 Lanterns that are already available.

Last but not least, there will be a management system for the palace in the new regions, which will rely on nodes, which will of course be linked to the production chains of crafting and trade between players.

Important: Like the previous expansions, Land of the Morning Light: Seoul is available to download for free to all Black Desert owners. You can get the MMORPG on Steam for just under one euro until September 19th. Find out here whether Black Desert is even worth it in 2024.
