Cyclist Samuel Pökälä reached the World Championship silver despite a few mistakes | Sports in a nutshell

Finland again received a medal from the World Championships in bicycle orienteering.

Finland Samuel Pökälä on Wednesday finished second in the combined start competition of the World Championships in bicycle orienteering in Bulgaria. Czech Republic won the race on the grounds of the Shumen fortress Jan Hasek 51 seconds ahead of Pökälä. Italy won the bronze Fabiano Bettega.

– I made a few small mistakes, which could have been reduced if not for the gap to the top, Pökälä said in the Suunnistusliitto press release.

During the race, the weather turned rainy.

– When the rain started, the terrain got pretty slippery and it felt like the bike wasn’t moving, even though it tried to ride hard. Overall, it was a very good race, Pökälä said.

The women’s competition was won by Denmark Nikoline Splittorff. The best of the Finnish women had reached eighth place Ruska Saarelawho won the women’s sprint on Tuesday.

The World Championships continue on Thursday with the middle distances.
