The government wants to reduce emissions of ammonia and greenhouse gases from agriculture, reduce environmental toxins in water and prevent the spread of invasive species in Sweden.

Therefore, the government proposes in its budget that SEK 260 million be spent on this next year.

That pot also includes measures for the restoration of meadows and pastures, measures against waste crime and for mosquito control.

The government also proposes a new investment support which they call the “nitrogen life”, where farmers are to be helped to reduce emissions of, among other things, nitrogen compounds. SEK 100 million of the SEK 260 million will be added to this next year.

“The Nitrogen Life, just like the Climate Life, will provide great environmental benefits for every tax kroner invested,” says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) in a press release.
