GTA 6 is due to be released in 2025. Recently, however, rumors have been circulating that it will be delayed. Rockstar employees explain what this means.
When will GTA 6 be released? There is currently no exact release date. A first trailer was released in December 2023, and the release date, as of today, is fall 2025.
However, there have now been rumors that the game might not meet this date and might be postponed to 2026. Since GTA 6 is accompanied by a lot of hype, the rumors of a postponement understandably have mixed feelings among fans.
Now some of the developers have commented on the rumors themselves and explained whether they are true according to current knowledge.
One good news and one bad news
What do the developers say? Gaming journalist Jason Schreier writes in a post on x.com that he was confronted with rumors about the delay in recent days. He then spoke to six Rockstar Games employees to find out more.
The good news: The employees have not heard anything about a postponement. Schreier specifies that the employees he spoke to were not “informed” about a postponement. It is entirely possible that the management decided on a postponement months ago, but this was not communicated internally.
Schreier himself does not believe in such behavior and therefore calls the rumors “nonsense.” Just last month, Take-Two confirmed the release date of fall 2025.
But there is also some bad news: Schreier emphasizes in his post that this all-clear may only apply to the current state of development. After all, GTA 6 is a big, ambitious game. It cannot be ruled out that there might be delays in the future.
The current rumors have been refuted for the time being. There is only about a year left until the release – whether the developers can finish the game by then and optimize it to their satisfaction remains to be seen. Delays are not uncommon in the gaming industry – the hotly anticipated MMORPG Throne and Liberty is also affected.
