Sebastian Stan, who has been part of the mega franchise since 2011, says yesAlthough most people probably only know him as Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier from the action-packed comic book adaptations, the actor regularly impresses in other, really unusual roles.

At the beginning of the year, he amazed audiences in the idiosyncratic tragicomedy A Different Man at the Berlinale. Now the next film with him is announced, which you should definitely put on your watch list: The Apprentice – The Trump Story. As the title already suggests: This is about former US President Donald J. Trump.

The Apprentice is not a biopic that covers Trump’s entire life. Instead, director Ali Abbasi (Border, Holy Spider) and his screenwriter, journalist Gabriel Sherman (The Loudest Voice), lay out the Focus on the 1970s and 1980swhere Trump (Sebastian Stan) establishes himself as a businessman in the real estate sector.

Particularly important is the relationship he has with his lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), who is supposed to help him step out of the shadow of his influential father, Fred Trump (Martin Donovan). His wife, Ivanka Trump (Maria Bakalova), also plays a crucial role in the film, which has already caused controversy.

None other than Donald Trump himself tried to prevent the release of The Apprentice. One of the reasons for this: The film shows how Trump raped his wife. The basis for this scene was divorce documents. Trump’s legal team sent a cease and desist letter to the film crew.

Nevertheless, The Apprentice will be released in cinemas. The production told Variety:
