The PS5 Pro is almost here. The new, more powerful console is expected to be officially unveiled on September 10. Here’s what it should change…
While rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro have been growing for months, Sony has just turned things up a notch by announcing a mysterious event for this Tuesday, September 10 at 5 p.m. Paris time (8 a.m. PDT). Even if the Japanese firm has not given any indication of the content of this presentation, all the signals seem to point to the long-awaited unveiling of the so-called ‘Pro’ Playstation 5.
The PS5 Pro has indeed been at the center of speculation since last week. As early as Friday, Sony had subtly teased the console’s design in an image celebrating the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand. In the background, we could see a console that strongly resembled the recent leaks about the PS5 Pro, including three characteristic black bands on the front.
The presence of Mark Cerny as the main presenter of Tuesday’s event is also a big clue. Cerny is the mastermind behind the architecture of the PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5, so his participation suggests a major technical announcement, likely that of the new console.
Price and release date to be confirmed
The arrival of this mysterious presentation echoes the many rumors of the last few months, evoking a PS5 Pro in development, with games currently being optimized to take advantage of it. The expected improvements mainly concern a more powerful GPU for high definition graphics, better ray tracing and boosted frame rates.
According to leaks, the PS5 Pro would rely on an improvement in the PS5’s graphics performance, rather than a complete overhaul, to extend the current generation. Its launch would allow Sony to meet the growing demand for ever more beautiful games that take full advantage of 4K and 8K TVs. Without a player (as with the slim version) and without a change in controllers, it is therefore still far from a PS6 that we could also have expected, four years now after the launch of the famous console.
If Sony confirms the PS5 Pro this Tuesday, September 10, as everything suggests, the console could hit the shelves as early as December for the holiday season. At what price? While the PS5 Slim is currently sold for 450 euros in digital version, the 500 euro mark should be crossed if we are to believe the rumors, which even predict 550 euros. A price that would correspond to that of a PS5 with a reader. Definitive answer in a few hours now with this PlayStation event which is already shaping up to be a highlight of the gaming season.
