(Telestock) – Pirellian Italian tire manufacturer that is part of the FTSE MIB, and Bosch, a German technology and services supplier, have signed a Joint Technology Development AgreementThe goal is to create new software-based solutions and driving features thanks to sensors installed in tires, also known as “in-tire” sensors.
Bosch and Pirelli, it is stated in a note, share the vision of a long-term path for explore the use of data flows together coming from the tires as input for the vehicle dynamics control systems.
Pirelli Cyber Tyre is the world’s first tire-based system with integrated sensors that collect data and transmit it to the vehicle for real-time processing. Bosch has already developed an ESP (stability control) application specifically adapted to Pirelli tires in a first joint project with high-performance car manufacturer Pagani. The “Pirelli Cyber Tyre” technology on the Pagani Utopia Roadster transmits key information from the tire to the ESP control unit. This ensures not only optimal use of the tire’s specific properties and performance, but also the highest levels of safety and tailor-made driving comfort in all conditions.
Under the new collaboration agreement, Bosch to provide hardware and software expertise which it has developed over time as a global technology and service provider. Bosch is also a leader in MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) sensor technologies, and develops and produces tire pressure sensors that use the BLE (“Bluetooth Low Energy”) standard. Combining this expertise with Pirelli’s integrated systems technologies – ranging from hardware to software, algorithms and modeling – will make it possible to collect, process and transmit data from tires in real time to provide parameters to the vehicle’s electronic control systems, via BLE in order to reduce energy consumption. Pirelli and Bosch now aim to exploit Bosch’s MEMS technology for in-tire applications.
