The biggest innovation of the iPhone 16 family: “Camera Control”

The biggest innovation that physically came to the table in the iPhone 16 family was the new button called “Camera Control”.

Positioned next to all iPhone 16 models “Camera Control” Apple officially said the following about the camera/shutter button: “Through a meticulous integration of hardware and software, Camera Control makes professional camera systems even more versatile, providing a new and innovative way to quickly turn on the camera, take photos, and start recording video. It features a tactile button that enhances the click experience, a high-sensitivity force sensor that supports a tap gesture, and a capacitive sensor that enables touch interactions. The new camera preview helps users frame and adjust other control options, such as zoom, exposure, or depth of field, to capture stunning photos and videos by swiping across Camera Control. This fall, Camera Control will be updated with a two-stage shutter release that lets you automatically lock focus and exposure with a tap, so you can reframe your shot without losing focus.

Developers will also be able to make Camera Control available in third-party apps like Kino, allowing users to assign focus points and adjust white balance, including different depth-of-field positions within their captured scenes. Camera Control will also offer visual AI features that let users learn about specific objects and places faster than ever before. Coming next year in countries and regions where Apple Intelligence is supported, users will be able to tap and hold Camera Control to see the hours and ratings of a restaurant they pass, add an event to their calendar from a brochure, quickly identify the breed of a dog, and more.

“Camera Control will also serve as a gateway to third-party tools that have expertise in a specific area. For example, users will be able to use Camera Control when they want to search Google to purchase a product or use ChatGPT’s problem-solving capabilities. Users will be able to control when third-party tools are used and what information is shared with those tools.”
