The inter-union is first and foremost demanding the withdrawal of standardised assessments, but the press release points to other reasons for mobilisation, such as the “clash of knowledge” or the recent appointment of Michel Barnier to Matignon.
A week after the start of the school year, a first strike by primary school teachers is being organized this Tuesday, September 10, 2024. The call for mobilization was launched at the end of August by the FSU-Snuipp, a primary school teachers’ union, since joined by SUD Éducation and the CGT Éduc’action. The inter-union is protesting above all against the generalization of national assessments. Assessments which are to be held this week in classes ranging from CP to CM2.
So, what to expect? “It doesn’t look like it’s going to be huge,” FSU-Snuipp toldActu.fr. No precise figures, but the union already estimates that “this will not be the biggest strike for Education”. “We are not expecting a massive mobilization”, confirms Isabelle Vuillet, national secretary of the CGT Éduc’action, to West France.
The reason for this is the choice of date, which some consider too close to the start of the school year, a rather busy period for teachers. Others also point out that many teachers have already taken the habit in recent years, when these assessments were still optional. Overall, a slightly larger turnout is expected in the Paris region, and more particularly in Seine-Saint-Denis, where it could be the strongest, “much more than in the regions”, reports Actu.fr.
