Man charged after 20 plus asphalt chunks thrown at police officers

St. Thomas police are investigating a fraud that left one business out $140,000.

A business owner contacted police on Saturday with a complaint about a business vendor, St. Thomas police said in a news release Monday.

Police say a vendor notified the targeted business that its payment system and account information had changed, police said. The vendor provided new information to the local business and the company updated their records to reflect it.

“A short time later, the owners were made aware of several fraudulent transactions and reported the incident to police,” St. Thomas police said.

St. Thomas police are continuing to investigate the alleged fraud.

An Aylmer man is charged with assaulting police after chunks of asphalt were thrown at officers in a grocery store parking lot.

Aylmer police say they responded to a disturbance involving a man in a store parking lot on Sept. 3. When approached officers, the suspect began grabbing chunks of asphalt and throwing them at police, Aylmer police said in a news release Monday.

“Over 20 pieces were thrown in total before the man was taken into custody,” police said.

The suspect was taken to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital to be assessed, police said, adding the suspect was arrested on Friday.

A 47-year-old Aylmer man is charged with causing a disturbance and three counts of assaulting police. He was released from custody on recognition with conditions, police said.

Aylmer police are seeking two suspects after power tools were stolen from a Canadian Tire store.

A man and a woman entered a Canadian Tire on Sept. 3 at about 6:30 p.m., Aylmer police said. The two “stole a large amount of power tools” and left the store without paying, police said.

The two suspects entered a waiting vehicle outside, Aylmer police said. In a news release Monday, investigators released surveillance images of the two suspects.
