The doping appeal of two top biathletes of recent years

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeals of two Russian biathletes who have already ended their careers regarding their doping tests.

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected Russian biathletes who have already finished their careers Yevgeny Ustyugovin and Svetlana Sleptsova complaints about their doping penalties. The International Biathlon Union IBU and the sport’s ethics monitoring body BIU reported on the matter on their websites on Monday.

Ustjugov’s competition results will be invalidated starting August 27, 2013 and ending at the end of the 2013-2014 World Cup season. Ustjugov ended his career at the end of that World Cup season.

The IBU had already announced in February 2020 that Russia would lose its Sochi Olympic men’s relay gold because of Ustyugov. CAS’s decision on Monday means that the IBU’s decision remains in force.

Sleptsova’s competition results will be invalidated starting March 22, 2013 and ending at the end of the 2013-2014 World Cup season. Ustjugov is the Olympic winner of the joint start race from the 2010 Games in Vancouver. Sleptsova celebrated relay gold at the same Olympics.
