Swedish hockey goaltender Kevin Lindskoug, who was addicted to cocaine, told Aftonbladet that he wanted to dress as a woman since he was young.
Swedish ice hockey goaltender Kevin Lindskoug32, pleaded guilty to cocaine use in February and was banned for four years last week.
Lindskoug’s decade-long playing career with Scotland’s Clasgow Clan likely ended when he failed a doping test.
The goalkeeper talked about the steps that led to the situation and his gender identity on Saturday in Aftonbladet in a published story where she posed wearing a dress.
Lindskoug says in the story that he is a transvestite who occasionally wants to appear as a woman by wearing clothes of the opposite sex. From a young age, she was interested in, for example, make-up and nail polish.
– I was a competitive, but sensitive child. I didn’t adapt to hockey’s macho culture of talking about girls. When I moved to Björklöven at the age of 22, I just adapted to the situation, Lindskoug quoth.
In the 2023–2024 season, Lindskoug represented the Polish Podhale. He dressed up as a woman at a local Halloween party. This was too much for the club management, and Lindskoug was fired.
The situation tested the Swede’s mental health, and he sought relief from the situation in drugs.
At the end of the year, Lindskoug signed a contract with the Scottish Fife Flyers, but continued to use cocaine. The club management found out about drugs and canceled the contract.
Lindskoug transferred to the Glasgow Clan, but soon tested positive.
Salo praised
Lindskoug’s interview received a lot of media attention in Sweden, and it was also taken into account in Finland and in Norway. With Tre Kronor’s goal, he achieved Olympic and World Cup gold Tommy Salo believes that Lindskoug’s exit will be good for the sport.
– He opens the way for others who are wondering if they dare to come out of the closet. He gets my warmest praise, a former top scorer quoth.
Salo hopes that Lindskoug will return to hockey. Lindskoug worked as a junior coach for a while before his suspension. Salo condemns the use of cocaine as a bad solution.
– I hope you come back Kevin because you seem like a passionate junior coach. You are needed.
The director of development of the Swedish Hockey Association agrees Anders Wahlström.
– We need people who show that you can be as you are. We are all unique. It must be possible in hockey as well, Wahlström said.
