The Finnish Ice Hockey Federation will not use the exemption it received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pay the overdue electricity bills of the Helsinki arena on behalf of the hall company. Union tells announcing that the federal government unanimously decided on the matter on Monday morning.

– We ended up not paying the bill, because according to our investigation, it would have been only a short-term solution, chairman of the Ice Hockey Association Heikki Hietanen background in the announcement.

– Hopefully a longer-term solution can be found, but the Ice Hockey Federation cannot offer such a solution, Hietanen states.

The electricity in the Helsinki arena was cut off on Monday of last week, i.e. September 2, due to unpaid electricity bills. After that, the hall company is said to have maintained critical functions of the arena with backup power.

After the hall company’s payment difficulties became apparent, the Ice Hockey Association applied for an exemption, which was granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last week.
