New shooter is reminiscent of “Sea of Thieves”, but instead of pirates and sea there are steam walkers and desert

If you don’t like sand, you’d better look away now: For everyone else, “Sand” (PC) might be the most exciting alternative to the pirate game “Sea of Thieves” available on Steam.

What’s the name of the game again? “Sand” – This is a first-person shooter that lets you control a giant steam walker alone or in co-op. You will need it to search the desert planet you are on for treasures and to protect yourself from other players.

The mech (called a trampler in the game) will not only be your favorite means of transportation, but also your most powerful weapon. There are classic firearms, but if you are attacked by another trampler, they will be of little help.

The game is being developed by the studio Hologryph, which most recently worked on the multiplayer game “Secret Neighbor.” “Sand” has so far only been announced for Steam. It is still unclear whether other platforms will follow.

In a trailer, the developers present the current castles:

Trampler Editor and PvP Battles

What do the devs show in the trailer? You can choose one of the pre-made tramplers or build one yourself in an editor. If you are playing alone, a small or medium-sized trampler is a good option. Larger models offer more space, but also have to be controlled by several people.

Since you’ll be fighting with your trampler, you should pay attention to defense when building it. Lookout towers can help you spot enemies from long distances, while mounted guns give you the firepower you need. The more modules you add to your trampler, the slower it will be and the harder it will be to maneuver.

What does the gameplay look like? In the desert, you can complete missions that give you rewards. This could be ammunition for one of your guns, for example. On your travels, you will also meet other players and their tramplers, whose treasures you can steal. The realistic look could therefore make “Sand” interesting for all those who find “Sea of Thieves” too funny.

Anyone who wants to can already sign up for an upcoming playtest of the game on Steam. This is scheduled to take place in the early fourth quarter of 2024. You can find out more here: Mortal Engines in good? A new end-time game on Steam focuses on sandy shooter action with mobile fortresses
